Stitched Up Alphabet

I didn't really have a plan when beginning this piece for the 'Amazing Alphabet' challenge, I just started by painting a 4" X 6" piece of paper canvas using black acrylic paint, and while the paint was drying, began cutting letters from colored card stock in a freehand manner.  The next step was to machine…

Slide Changer Box Tunnel Book

Awhile back while in a thrift shop, I picked one of those slide changer magazines that were once used in slide projectors.  It reminded me of watching slide shows at my Grandma's house with my cousins when my sister and I were little.  I didn't have a plan for it, just knew it needed to…

Colorful Flower Tunnel Book

I had intended to make two separate tunnel books; one I envisioned with happy colorful flowers, and one would be an homage to my favorite drink – coffee.  But after working on the colorful flower book for awhile, and then struggling a bit with the coffee book, the idea occurred that my flower book was…

Strong

I have witnessed the terrifying effects of *** cancer and other female cancers, and am amazed how STRONG a woman becomes – in ways she may never have thought possible. Although physical strength may be challenged, what often guides her are a strong support system, strong faith, strong conviction in the power of healing.  This is a tribute…

My Quirky House Full of Quirky Animals

I vividly remember sitting on my Grandpa’s lap as a little girl, cheek nestled against his soft denim overalls, telling him that someday I was going to have a place where all the homeless animals would come to live.  In my child mind, the animals all got along, there was plenty of food, never illness,…

Too Late In The Day

This collage piece on canvas has a black and white photo of my Grandma that has been enhanced with watercolor pencils.  It is framed with decorative paper and paper flowers.  A quote that my Grandma is known for has been stamped on paper.  I created this piece in her memory.

Paper Nest Collage

I discovered a bird nest in my garden's spirea bush and it inspired this collage piece.  The nest is made of shredded newspaper and is adhered to a square canvas.

Art Washes Collage

I often think of this quote at the end of the day when I'm playing in my studio.  My dog likes to hang out with me there, and she served as my muse for this collage piece.  Here is my muse:

If I Was Fearless

The things I would do if I had no fears…some of my loftiest dreams and whimsies are depicted in "If I Was Fearless".  Materials used are acrylic paint, watercolor paper, metal chain, wooden beads and wooden covers.

Reflections Journal

The journal cover is an altered vintage photo album that is painted and collaged.  Some of the materials used are a mathematics flash card, scrap metal, patterned paper, words from old books, vintage scarf material, vintage award medal and a feather.  The satin star is a piece of a quilt that was given to my great-grandma from her girlfriends  around 1907.  The…
