Your Creativity Could Earn You Fame and Money

cate pratoYou probably know about the Cloth Paper Scissors and Quilting Arts Reader Challenges. They're a great opportunity to try something new and possibly get published. We've found some amazing talent through these challenges, and the number of mixed-media artists who participate keeps growing.

But you may not know that many of our sister publications throughout Interweave also host contests, make-alongs, and challenges that would also inspire you. Some are just for fun, some will get you exposure on the online communities, and a few even offer cash prizes.

American Artist Self-portrait Cover Contest, deadline Nov. 15, 2011
There's still time to submit your entry to this contest that could earn you a spot on the cover of American Artist, Watercolor, or Drawing magazines, plus $500.

"Project Accessory" Make-Along, ongoing
Our mixed-media jewelry friends over at Jewelry Making Daily are having a blast emulating the challenges of the new TV show "Project Accessory," and you can join in the fun. Each week a new challenge is posted and you can upload your creations to the gallery to share with the other artists.

Cloth Paper Scissors "Carve it Up" Reader Challenge, deadline November 21, 2011
Before you carve the turkey, carve up a stamp on foam, linoleum blocks, carving blocks, or even potatoes. Make a stamped image and send it to us for possible publication in the magazine.

Quilting Arts inStitches eMag "Affirmative Quilt" Reader Challenge, deadline December 1, 2011
We invite you to create a small (10"square or smaller) quilt featuring an affirmative word or phrase. Use any materials and techniques that you choose. We suggest techniques like painting, stitching, printing, stamping, stenciling, embroidery, and beading. Just make sure that your piece includes stitching in some form. You may see your entry in the interactive electronic eMag.

Artist Daily "Move Over Hallmark!" Holiday Card Contest, deadline December 10, 2011
Celebrate the holiday season with Artist Daily and American Artist magazine by creating your own holiday card, or cards, and uploading a picture of it to the gallery. Community members will vote, and the top vote-getting card will become the official holiday greeting card for Artist Daily, sent out to professional contacts and artists in the industry. Talk about exposure!

Quilting Arts Magazine "Time Flies" Reader Challenge, deadline January 6, 2012
Do you have a favorite memory or moment in time that makes you smile whenever you think of it. We invite you to celebrate those cherished moments by participating in our "Time Flies" reader challenge! We will show some of our favorite entries in the April/May 2012 issue of Quilting Arts and possibly even exhibit some at upcoming quilt shows.

PieceWork Excellence in Needle Arts Award Pincushion Contest, Deadline April 2, 2012
Calling all knitters, crocheters, needleworkers (embroidery, etc.), beaders, and lace/tatting makers! Create a beautiful, whimsical, eye-catching, fun, or classic pincushion and win $500 cash or $250 in crafting supplies.
