Thoughts on Thursday: Last-minute gift ideas

13 Dec 2012

The countdown is on!

If you're like me, you're still working on that gift list. To help me with that, I decided to go through the 2012 issues of Cloth Paper Scissors for some inspiration.

I found a lot of great ideas and thought I'd share some of them with you.

Artist Jenny Cochran Lee shared her Paper Collage Collections in the September/October issue. Colorful and fun, these collages can easily be personalized for just about anyone on your list.

Think paintbrushes, tools, or even hearts and stars.

This little beauty can be made in no time at all, and I bet you have most of the materials right in yout stash.

Use any colorful, graphic tin and then cut and stitch. Use the heart shape like artist Karen Wellman did in the May/June issue, or choose a shape of your own.

This little bauble will appeal to all age groups.

"A Little Birdie Told Me" these are fun and easy to make. Sharon Gross used her own painted papers for these colorful birds (November/December), but you could use papers that you already have in your stash.

With the templates right in the article, you're ready to go. And just think, if birds aren't your shape of choice, you could adapt the directions to your needs.

I'm thinking ornament shapes, trees, or
how about stars?

And for those of you who are looking for a simple technique that you can work with for a variety of age groups and styles, take a look at the A Look At . . . Rebel Screen Printing in the March/April issue. Editor Jenn Mason shares a few of her tried-and-true methods for getting your personal images onto paper, fabrics, and more.

Lots to choose from and plenty to inspire.

I'm feeling much better about my list. I hope you are, too.

Happy holidays,
