Thoughts on Thursday: Inspiring Organization . . .

3 Jan 2013

Beginning a new year often means rethinking the spaces we occupy. Whether it's your home, office, or your studio, the new year frequently inspires change.

Or maybe it's the cold weather and staying indoors that makes us want to spice things up a bit . . .
add color . . . add spirit . . .   You know what I mean!

Inspired by Linda Blinn's "Countdown for Studio Solutions" in the January/February 2013 issue of Cloth Paper Scissors, I decided to take another look at the 2012 issues of Studios and share some creative storage ideas with you.

Is there an abandoned dollhouse in your attic? Look how cute it looks as a storage unit. Add some colorful boxes and fabrics and it becomes a statement!  (Christina Nellemann, Fall '12)

Susan Borgen upcycled this  vintage piece for more colorful storage.  It's metal body makes tacking notes and such so easy. And  notice the covered cans on the door . . . an easy project!  (Fall, '12).

Industrial shelving takes on a whole new look with pretty baskets, bins, and boxes keeping supplies in plain view. (Andrea Villarrell (Winter, '12)

A lovely piece in its own right, notice the plentiful drawers with whimsical knobs. An old chest becomes new again . . . (Jane Davenport, Winter '12)

Yes; those are pink shoes holding those tools! Colorful, creative . . . rather fashionable, too!  What do you have sitting around that can hold some tools and make you smile?

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the idea of  going bold with color to spice things up. These artists have created warm, inspiring spaces with color. How could you not be excited and inspired to be in these rooms?

Carolyn Dube's studio (Summer, '12)

Bonita Eaton's studio (Summer, '12)

Jacey Bogg's studio  (Winter, '12)

This is just a sampling of the many, many inspiring organizational and decorating ideas you'll find in Studios.

Don't you just want to get started? I know I do!

Happy New Year to all!

Does color affect the way you feel . . . how creative you are? Leave me a comment.

my creative space is painted lavender for relaxation with a spacious nook painted a lovely shade of pale green for accent, inspiration, peace. I believe color does affect I feel and can be agitating, comforting, inspiring, motivating etc.
