You may or may not have heard about the movement to pick one word as a guiding word for the new year. Ali Edwards has been leading scrapbookers through this adventure since 2006 on her blog. The movement has gotten bigger and everywhere I look I see people mentioning their “word”. Have you missed the movement? Try Googling “one word” or search Twitter for #OneWord and you’ll quickly see what I mean.
The idea is that it’s easier to try to incorporate one word into your life than it is to keep a resolution. Although, I must admit that I kept my resolution in 2012—for the first time EVER. (No Movie Popcorn!)
My problem with the #OneWord movement? I have a seriously short attention span. So this year I’m going to do #OneWordaMonth instead!
This month’s word is SOCIAL!
Social is the perfect word for me to kick off the year with because it will encourage me to make the most of events like CHA (the Craft and Hobby Association convention) later this week. It will give me the excuse to make lunch or movie or art play dates with friends. It will also be very practical as I have a list about a mile long of Social Media to-dos.
Now is your chance to join me—or should I say help me??
Social in January
In honor of 2013 and my one word for this month, I’ve finally started new Twitter and Facebook accounts following my world as editor. Want to see what I get to see? Get updates on new products, books, techniques? Hear about new calls for art or art shows? Or find out what an editor works on in her own studio? Just Like me on Facebook.com/MixedMediaJenn or follow me on Twitter.com/MixedMediaJenn!
Filling my Flipboard
The other thing you can do is share your awesome blogs with me! I’m loading up my Flipboard app (see a shot of my blog as it looks in Flipboard on the left) with mixed-media blogs so that I can follow all of you, too!
All of our Cloth Paper Scissors publications are great because of the great contributors and we’re always trolling the internet looking for fantastic artists. Occasionally I’ll share some of my “Favorites to Follow” on my blog or over other social media platforms, too. Simply leave your blog URL in the comment section here!
Not sure what Flipboard is? Check it out here. If you love flipping back and forth between Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Blogs, and Pinterest then by all means—carry on! Or you can use Flipboard to create your own current digital social magazine to flip through. (There are apps for both Androids and iPhones!)
I can’t tell you how much joy I get from turning on my iPhone or iPad knowing that in just seconds I can be flipping through all of your wonderful blogs and images! It’s almost like you all are making a mixed-media magazine for yours truly.
Pinterest Love is Love Shared
You can also follow me on Pinterest at MixedMediaJenn. I’m looking forward to currating fun boards with links to great products and tutorials, and helping you find other useful info like fantastic artists to follow, new techniques to try, and because artists have to eat too, even a board of deliciously yummy recipes that are like art on a plate!
Of course you’ll still want to continue to follow Cloth Paper Scissors on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, too! But if you want an inside look from an Editor’s point of view, follow me on Facebook.com/MixedMediaJenn, Twitter.com/MixedMediaJenn, and Pinterest at MixedMediaJenn.
And stay tuned to find out the rest of my words for 2013 and don’t forget to leave your blog url in the comments section
Happy New Year!
Your friend and editor,
