Cloth Paper Scissors Reader Challenges

Black, White, & Read All Over Reader Challenge

We love book text---- the older the better! We invite you to use old book pages (pre-1923 or public domain) and create a small ornament for our challenge, using your favorite mixed-media supplies. 

1. You must use book pages to create your mixed-media ornament.  It must be 2½" x 3½" (artist trading card size) and double sided. Be sure to include a hanger. There are no exclusions on materials, but your entry should include only shades of black and white (and the color red, if desired).

note: One  submission per person.

2. Your two-dimensional mixed- media ornament must be free of any text or images that are protected by copyright, unless you have the expressed written permission from the person or institution that holds the copyright and you provide that written permission with your submission.

 

3. Please send your mixed-media ornament to our Sudbury office by August 4, 2014. There is no fee for this challenge because the ornaments will not be returned. The ornaments will be donated locally.

 

4. Please be sure to put your name on your artwork and, for safety, be sure to place your entry in a plastic bag before packing it for shipment.

Mixed-Media Skull Challenge

Día de los Meurtos 

We invite you to be a part of our Día de los Muertos celebration by creating a unique mixed-media skull (calaveras). Calaveras appear everywhere during this holiday, and they are almost always portrayed as enjoying life. What fun will your calaveras be up to? Create a two- or three-dimensional Día de los Meurtos-inspired skull using your favorite mixed-media techniques and supplies.

Rules:

  1. Create a 6" x 6" (or 6" x 6" x 6") mixed-media skull. There are no exclusions on materials, but your entry must weigh less than 13 ounces.

  1. To be considered for this challenge, cut and paste 2 low-res images of your art (one full image, one detail shot) into the body of an email by May 9, 2014 and send it to cps.challenges@interweave.com, with the words "Mixed-Media Skull Challenge" in the subject line. Please include your name, shipping address, email address, phone number, and a brief explanation of your artwork.

  1. Finalists will be posted at bit.ly/ReaderChallengeBlog on May 16, 2014. Artists will not be notified directly.
  1. Finalist artwork must arrive in our offices by June 6, 2014. At that time a flat return shipping and handling fee of $8 U.S., $12 Canada, and $15 for all other international entries will be due.

 Cloth Paper Scissors invites you to "Put a Stamp on it!"

Ever wished you could design your own postage stamps? Well, now you can! For this challenge you will be creating an original piece of mixed-media art that you'd like to see on a stamp. Use paper and/or fabric and your favorite mixed-media materials and techniques to create a small, unique piece of art. Collage, paint, stamp, stitch, stencil-whatever you think would enhance the look of the mail you send.

We will choose three winners to receive a sheet of official postage stamps from, custom printed with their winning artwork. 

Rules:

1.     Your stamp art must be created on a 7" x 5" flat surface (landscape format only) and be made with mixed-media supplies. There are no exclusions on materials. Please do not include any stamp border or stamp value on your art.

For safety, be sure to place your entry in a plastic bag before packing it for shipping.  All artwork will be returned the week of July 14, 2014.

Carved Stamp Swap

Cloth Paper Scissors is challenging you to carve a custom stamp for our swap. Carve a small (3" x 3" or smaller) stamp from one of the many types of rubber carving blocks, like Speedball, Nasco's Safety Kut, Mastercarve, etc., and send it to us. In return, you'll receive a carved stamp from another artist. Help us spread the stamp carving love!

The rules

1.  To participate in the swap, send your carved stamp, by January 8th, to:

2.     Write your name, shipping address, and email address on the back of your stamp. No separate cards/tags with this information, please.
