Mixed-media summer

Think of all the colorful and inspiring images you come in contact with every day, especially in the warmer months as we spend more time outdoors. Individual flowers, beautiful gardens, seashells, beach and seascapes are just a few of the things that come to mind.

At this time of year, my favorite place to spend time is at the beach. The sounds, the smells, the colors, and of course the ocean draw me in.

That's why Serena Wilson Stubson's Painted Paper Ornaments in the July/August issue of Cloth Paper Scissors caught my eye.

Serena chose to paint little sailboats on colorful seas, but you could paint just about anything you like.

These flat, circular ornaments are the perfect size for trying out new media and ideas.

Seashells are one of my very favorite things. A few short months ago, I  spent time on a beach in Sanibel Island, Florida, (well known for its amazing shells) in a thunderstorm so that I had some of those special shells to take home to Massachusetts.

So imagine how thrilled I was to see Deborah Wolff's needle-felted seashell cards. This project is the perfect way to savor those special shells and the memories of that beach.

These are just a couple of the fun and inspiring articles you'll find in the July/August issue of Cloth Paper Scissors. Think of all of the different scenes you could paint on your ornaments.

What would YOU do with your needle-felted shells? I have some ideas . . .
