Doggone Good Dog Biscuits

Here’s what Managing Editor Helen Gregory gives Murphy, her 17-year-old Dachshund-Beagle mix, when she’s a good girl (which is always).

1 cup hot water or bullion
1/3 cup softened margarine
1/2 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 egg, beaten
1/3 cup peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 cup oats
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

Knead for several minutes to form a stiff dough. Roll dough to 3/8″ thick and cut into bone or bar shapes. Bake at 275* for 1 hour on a foil-lined baking sheet. Turn off the oven and let the biscuits remain in the oven for 1 hour. Remove and cool for 1 hour. Store in an airtight container.
