Beach Bra Mixed-media Stitch

This assemblage started with a bra that had a beach-inspired print.  I originally started this piece for a Cloth Paper Scissors Reader's Challenge but it took on a life of its own and became a treasured piece I have been unable to part with.  The bra is embellished with hand-stitching, beading and embroidery.  It is affixed to a fabric covered canvas board and stuffed with a water bottle prosthesis.  The bathing beauty in the collage is created from a vintage photo of my grandmother that I tweaked using Photoshop and then printed on fabric paper using my Ink Jet computer printer.  The main collage assemblage is mounted in an attractive wooden serving tray that I found at the Goodwill.  I filled the box with corks from wine bottles to further the theme.  Finally, I completed the composition with a necklace of seashells, some fishing gear and some beach glass I picked up on Bolivar after Hurricane Ike visited our area.  The wooden game pieces add interest and clearly communicate the idea that sometimes "Life is a Beach".  Literally!  This work is dedicated to my friend Gayle who lost her battle with *** cancer.
