29" x 51" collage on silk. Photo transfer, acrylic, china marker, ebony pencil, oil stick, kimono and cotton fabrics.
"Buildanark" is inspired by looking out the plane window on a trans-Atlantic flight over Greenland. Far below, the otherworldly colors of glaciers and tundra brought the climate crisis to the forefront of my consciousness. Embedded in the piece are facts about global emissions, sea level rise, and ice melt. Each group of animals in "Buildanark" is equipped with a DNA mapping system over their heads that, like Aboriginal songlines, is telling them where to meet up.
