Caged Raven

Base of Cuff:

This piece starts with thick beige cotton double fringed edged as the bottom layer.Wide layer of plush black velvet fabric. This already is stable and sturdy. We add onto that another dark maroon, coppery ribbed plush velor. Black stitched piping can be seen on this material. Several more layers include taupe, ivory, black, hand dyed mauves and plum cottons and rayon blends, as well as twills and brocade. Pewter gray mesh grid material gathers at the center. Patches of black velvet at one end, atop white vintage lace. Right side is designed using additional suede black scraps and cuts, all hand stitched and then decorated with machine weaving, fully fringed edges.

Specs (approx.): Band: 10" long by 5 1/2" – 6" wide.

Focals and Details:
There is a mountain of bulky fabric and then we draw our eyes to the BLACK RAVEN BIRD – Caged with brass metal work and mounted to it securely by hand stitching and then sewing in the red roses that lay against its ***. There is an exceptionally beautiful vintage silver skeleton key tucked right within the bird's reach. Poe's "Nevermore" is boldy printed using direct print to fabric image transfer process and is balanced by a secondary image transfer patch of fringed cotton – this displaying a Victorian woman in a garden with textural surroundings. Two HUGE black buttons with varying textures are sewn to one side and the two stretchable loops will tie this all together.

  1. Each one is better than the next.  I would see myself wearing this one.  Actually wearing them all.  Love the raven!  The roses!  The mix of fabrics!  The buttons and closure rings work well with the design.  The frayed fabrics are reminsent of feathers.
