What began as a single layer of turquoise paint into which I doodled tree symbols became this textured, impressionistic painting that is minimalist for me when it comes to building a painting. It contains only paints and heavy gel, which is a departure from my norm of using layers of materials — homemade papers, cheesecloth, found objects, foils, yarn, etc … —
I used metallic green and pink paints to build visual texture and the gel to build the heavy-body acrylics. In between each layer, I applied a glaze.
The painting measures 16 by 20 on canvas.
