Grandma’s Birds

"Grandma's Birds" is a playful collage/assemblage, all coming to life inside this square cigar box home.  The interior is lined with decorative papers.  The nest, full of eggs and metal birds, rests on a paper mache box painted with pale green crackle paint.  A crackled blue chipboard bird quietly hides in the background watching.  For contrast, the large wooden eggs were painted brightly and speckled with acrylic paint.  The hanging bird cage was strategically positioned in front of the mirror to add additional depth to the piece.  For an extra bit of texture and interest, I added a partial fence across the front.  The exterior of the bird's home was painted with a muted green crackle paint, allowing areas of the natural red wood to peak through the cracks.
