Home is a Four Letter Word

This is an assemblage I made out of an old wooden box and some cast off wooden pieces from the theatre department where I work. I used an old library card and pages from an old library book, mardi gras beads, an old ceramic coaster, game pieces and various other items to tell the story of life-Post Katrina. I lived in New Orleans from 2001-2004 and moved just one year before Katrina. This assemblage is a combination of stories I heard from friends and read from Chris Rose's book One Dead In Attic about the aftermath of Katrina. I used ink sketches on tracing paper, old wrapping paper, chipboard letters and acrylic paint to create the piece. An old key, rusty pieces and broken jewelry were also added.
