A Walk in the Woods

An artist's book created to celebrate the macro textures, colours and smells of a walk in our woods.  What better mixed media than nature itself?  Each page is made of some natural material: leaves, pine needles, elk hair, birch bark, lichen, wasp paper . . . mounted on papers or sandwiched between layers of Japanese tissue.  The covers are made of slate and bark mounted on leather, and the block is laced with linen cord with bone, wood and glass bead spacers.  The book is 3 x 3 1/2 x 1 inches.  You can view the book's creation on my Facebook page:  http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=173519&id=625817267&l=fd8151c39d

  1. This is wonderful. I viewed the pictures in the link and have to say 1) I am so impressed by your craftsmanship and creativity, 2) you sure manage to keep a great manicure throughout this messy process, and 3) can I come over and have a glass of wine while you show me how to do this? Thanks for sharing. My creative wheels are turning!
