Impressions of Spring

I started with a piece of cloth and painted it with gesso. When dry, i sanded the gesso.I Then I created a large stencil and stenciled the yellow flower. I painted the rest of the pieces in multiple colors. I made 2 other sizes and used them to create the smaller flowers, one which I cut out. I used the varioius sized postitive parts of the stencil, layed them underneath the piece and then sanded the whole thing when dry with a sanding block  concentrating on the edge of the stencils. Care must be taken other wise the fabric will rip where you sand. Where the positive pieces were, an impression of the stencil appeared. I used water color pencils to highlight various areas and embroidery. i backed the piece with batting before I did any embroidery.

  1. I see this as a wonderful landscape. great texture and layout with just portions of the flower stencil. looks like fun in the making. good color range. —anne
