I look at this portrait and have no doubt that someday, when I am old … "I shall wear purple, and a red hat that doesn't go and doesn't suit me…" Until that day, I continue to view the world thru rose-tinted glasses, as depicted here.
A self portrait is a VERY indulgent and challenging challenge, especially with encaustic. I enjoyed all that went into it… mentally. I used lengths of waxed linen thread pressed onto a wax surface to make a drawing, and filled in with the molten paint, hot off the griddle. I scrape away the edges to show the string lines. I then scrape and mark and dent into the wax with various metal tools. I even use some retired dental tools gifted by my dentist.
