I used a stretched canvas to create the shrine, boxed feel of the piece. I painted all surfaces of the canvas, front and back, with acrylic paints. I then used Modge Podge to affix the photographs and other flat, paper images to the interior of the canvas. I then added texture by using crackle paste, molding paste, and garnet gel. After, I did several layers of acrylic glazes. The tiles around the edge were glued down, along with the statues, shells, and flowers. I folded rice paper along the interior, creating a draped cloth look, and finished with a UV clear spray.
