Map 3: Medieval OC

Materials: paper, wood, watercolors, paint pens, glue

This map is inspired by illuminated manuscripts from the Middle Ages.  I wanted to depict my home (Orange County, California) as it may have looked according to a medieval mapmaker.  I highlighted Costa Mesa (home of South Coast Plaza), Anaheim (Disneyland), Laguna Beach (a center for the arts), San Juan Capistrano (beautiful mission and swallows), Dana Point (a harbor town)  The Unincorporated Area in the eastern part of the county bears the Latin phrase "here be dragons" or hic sunt dracones, a phrase written on a medieval map to indicate the territory was unexplored and probably dangerous.
