I created this necklace for a fantasy photo shoot my sister-in-law was doing of a mermaid. This is a bib necklace which began with Stiffy Stuff, hand dyed fabric, lots of shells and beads and hand painted ribbon. I drilled two holes into my large focal shell and then sewed it to the Stiffy Stuff using beading thread, seed beads, faceted green glass beads and fresh water pearls to make the center tassel. Similar tassels were added to the each side. I hand pleated ribbon to suggest kelp leaves and then randomly arranged shells, pearls and all kinds of jewelry components around the ribbons. Last of all I backed the bib with fabric and hand sewed sead beads all the way around the outer edges of the necklace. A delicate silver chain and closure were attached to the bib. This necklace is part of a set. I also created tassel earrings and cuffs with tulle for the mermaids wrists.

Lovely work – very imaginative!
Amazing. I love the neat round beaded edge. Can’t beat the color mix. The silk (wired?) ribbon is fabulous. Perfectly done!
