My bra related sculpture features the femininity, sparkle and beauty of my mother and contrasts that to the harsh reality of *** cancer. The ribbon fabric along with the cake represent the birthday aspects of the piece. Dying at a relatively young age robbed her and all of her family and friends of a future filled with life and many more birthdays. The photos are of my mother who died too young as a result of this disease. The jewelry used was from my mother’s jewelry box. The hard, strong metal represents an armor to protect but also symbolizes the harshness of the disease. A cup half full symbolizes the loss of a ***, and the emptiness she felt. I have never entered an art contest before and am very thankful to be able to express my feelings about *** cancer through a visual medium. *** cancer touches us all.
