Red Poppy Bib Necklace

I have been working on finding interesting ways to combine my love of sewing with my love of creating jewelry.  I began with a spray basted sandwich of black batting, burgandy voile. and organza.  I free motion quilted poppy flower shapes and then cut them out. The leaves were done the same way but the sandwich is fabric, batting and fabric and I painted the raw edges to keep them from fraying too much.  Then I machine sewed in them in place to a sheet of Stiffy Stuff.   I arranged my free motion quilted flowers on top and then hand tacked the flowers down with glass leaf beads, glass seed beads and lucite flower beads using nimo beading thread.  I created the necklace portion using large square green glass beads and frosted white round glass beads strung on Beadalon wire. Crimped loops of the wire are hand sewn in place on the back of the bib portion. The closure is a silver plated magnetic flower clasp. For a large necklace it is surprisingly light and comfortable to wear.  I picture it as a statement piece worn with that little black dress for a holiday party.
