The First Bride

This collage came about when I took an online class with Misty Mawn.  We had already learned about layering backgrounds and our next step was collage.  I was struggling this particular day with the background, getting it exactly the way I wanted it.  You probably wouldn't believe that the first layer was red and blue.  After staring at the background I just began to cut up different colored patterns I was seeing in magazines.  I didn't know what I was going to do with them I just kept cutting and cutting hoping for inspiration to strike.  Then I came across an image of a bride and I thought what if I made her dress out of all the different colors and patterns that I was cutting up?  The finished piece is what you see here and has been the inspiration for a series of "bride" paintings I've been working on for 2010.  By the end of the year I will have 104 paintings done, I'm currently in the 60's!
