Issue #15
In this issue of Quilting Arts Magazine® Embellishments you’ll learn a simple technique from Patricia Bolton for collaging with sheers and ExtravOrganza, discover new stencil designs, and more.
Collaging with Sheers
ExtravOrganza by Jacquard® is a semi-transparent sheet of silk fabric cut to 8½" x 11" size and backed on freezer paper, perfect for printing images using your inkjet printer.
Here’s a work in progress by Patricia Bolton where she used ExtravOrganza for various parts of this 8½" x 11" journal quilt. With this piece she overlapped sheer images to create a collaged looked. The magnolia cones and the magnolia flower were printed on ExtravOrganza, cut, then free-motion stitched to the fabric background.
1. Print an image on ExtravOrganza using an inkjet printer.
2. Peel the back from the freezer paper backing.
3. Cut or fray the image with fabric scissors.
4. For further color, paint with favorite coloring agent. Let dry.
5. Spray-baste to your fabric background.
6. Machine stitch.
