This is a 4 x 6 glued collage. When I was making it, I did not know if I agreed with the quote (an original piece of 1921 paper, as explained below), and whether if I did, I was the child, the flower, the cage, the angel, the butterfly, or the violinist up at the top. Anyway, this collage is made with a variety of papers and two vintage drawings. The smaller of the two figures (the lady playing a violin) is there by virtue of an image transfer technique. I also used dye inks and acrylics to make this piece.
This piece is another in the series that I call "Winged." The series consists of collages using text bits from an original copy of Edna St. Vincet Millay's book A Few Figs From Thistles, published in 1921. It also features images of birds and butterflys. In this series, I am exploring the transitions that women may go through.
