I think that this is the most personal handmade book I've created. I was very intraspective and used a lot of symbolism.
I used a book by Margaret Sidney called "Five Little Peppers and How They Grew", published in 1909. I was a little disconcerting that I was altering this book, as it was my first altered book. But I respected the author and the book by including a page with an envelope that detailed and gave credit to the author and the story.
- The book is 6 1/4" by 4 1/4 inches. I just love small books.
- I used a beautiful dark bag from a nice local store. I crumpled it and painted the paper to make it look a little bit like leather. I
- inserted a handmade paper on the spine and used my own handwriting to create the book title.
- I altered one of my own photos of a gate where I attended a retreat and make it look antique; then inserted it on the front cover.
