I began with an antique silk handkerchief and let it develop from there. The handkerchief has an acrylic paint and fabric medium wash on it; this was hand sewn onto the backing fabric of antique linen and a large piece of antique nightie case. The image of the two angels is an original picture from a Victorian copy of "The Pilgrim's Progress" by John Bunyan. I have hand sewn a vintage hand crochet doily, lace and antique floral embroidery work onto the piece with embroidery silks and sewing thread- both vintage. The "ANGELS" motif is hand embroidery on antique tea dyed linen, which I bonded onto a piece of antique nightie case and blanket stitched.
The frame is decoupaged with text and imagery from "The Pilgrim's Progress". I found the little pansy petal, (on the right side of the frame), in this beautiful book; someone, many years ago, had put it in between the pages to press- I wonder who it was ???.
The frame is approx 10 x 10 inches; the art work is protected by a glass frontispiece.
The back of the frame is decorated in my bright and cheerful style.
