From a series of 12 Mother Nature paintings, all completed in mixed media. This painting is a reminder that even when things go very wrong, they can still be saved. Originally I wanted to try a color wash over the entire image, however, I ended up with a muddy mess. She was headed to the trash bin when I decided to cut her out and adhere her to scrapbook paper; then the idea of building up a 3-D image was born and I began painting and cutting out leaves, adding stars made of tiny glass beads, yarn for the hairpiece and dress straps, a tree limb painted with instant coffee crystals, and finally, the saw-whet owl. He was carefully cut with an X-acto knife and adhered to a piece of cushioned tape so that he would look as though he is truly at alert on her arm.
