Make It University Spring 2009

Whether you join us at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Chicago, Long Beach, or all three, you’re going to have a fun- and creativity-filled time. In the past Make It University!™ with Cloth Paper Scissors® has featured events including workshops held by popular and talented artists, Open Studios where artists create right on the show floor, ATC trades, and “Surviving the Runway,” a crazy and creative extravaganza that always gets people rockin’ and rollin’.

At the Chicago Festival, April 17-19, 2009, Make It University!™ with Cloth Paper Scissors® was bustling with excitement and activity from start to finish.

MIU attendee Susan Clayton emailed to tell us how much she enjoyed the festivities:

“First of all, I want to tell all of you at Interweave about the fantastic job you did at the Chicago Quilt Festival. I came with a friend who has never done any kind of mixed media or art quilting, and we both had a blast. We took several MIU workshops and learned lots…thanks again for a great show. Surviving the Runway was terrific.”

Our fearless leader, Pokey Bolton, gave her popular “Surviving the Runway” creative challenge an ‘80s Prom Nite twist, with hilarious artistic (and entertaining) results.

Prior to the start of each MIU workshop, crowds gathered around to listen as names for that class were drawn from the lottery jar. The hour-long workshops were led by top-notch instructors, many of whom are regular Cloth Paper Scissors and/or Quilting Arts contributors, and the workshop participants created fabulous pieces of artwork.

New this year: festival participants were invited to vote for their favorites among the finalists of our first-ever Cloth Paper Scissors Calendar Contest. The winners will be announced May 8 on Pokey’s blog.

Did you miss the fun?

Don’t worry! You can catch the Make It University!™ with Cloth Paper Scissors wave in Long Beach, California, July 24-26, and in Houston October 15-18.
