  1. I am pretty certain that it is a VERY BAD idea to solder galvanized wire due to the toxic fumes released and your readers should be made aware of this immediately.

  2. I did some reading at Wikipedia and some forums with metal workers, and the problem with fumes comes from welding galvanized steel (sheet metal), not soldering galvanized steel wire. Welding is much hotter than soldering, and the mass of sheet metal much greater than galvanized steel wire. What fumes may arise from welding galvanized steel wire can be handled by taking simple safety precautions as you solder. Make sure that your work environment is well ventilated, wear a filtered safety mask to prevent breathing any possible fumes, and educate yourself.
