Rae Missigman created this fantastic tag using her images that you can download today! (Art and photo by Rae Missigman)

Included in the collection are a heart, a pair of wings, and a scalloped border, all in beautiful colors, created by Rae herself! (Click on the designs just mentioned for each hi-res image, or you can click here to download a folder containing all three!)

Rae created this artwork using the images to show how she incorporated the designs on a tag, adding stitching, mark making, ribbons, ephemera, and more. We love this detail that shows the stitching around the heart, the wings added behind the heart, some ephemera, and a stitched tab:

Here, Rae stitched that fun border to the edge of the tag—the black thread is a great accent:

You can use this artwork to create an amazing Valentine’s Day card, but all three images are versatile enough to be used anytime. I used the wings to carve rubber stamps, and turned them into leaves. To start, I cut out the designs, flipped them over, and traced around them on pieces of Speedball Speedy-Carve Blocks:

These were super easy to carve. I went around the design with the smallest carving blade, then continued removing rubber with a larger blade. Doing test prints with stamping ink is a great way to see your progress. I like leaving a few lines around the image, giving it that hand-carved look.

If you’re new to carving, here are a few tips: Go slowly, and create shallow grooves with the carving tools. There’s no need to dig deep into the rubber. Keep your carving hand steady and turn the block—you’ll get more accurate lines that way. And always carve away from yourself to prevent accidents!

Here are the finished stamps. I added some little dots at the tips of the leaves/wings, mimicking the marks that Rae often includes in her artwork.

To make a Valentine’s Day tag, I printed out Rae’s designs onto white cardstock, turning the hearts into flower petals, then stamped the leaves, added the cut-out wings as more leaves, and attached the scalloped border one one side.

We hope you have fun art adventures with this download, and Happy Valentine’s Day!
