“Life’s a Beach!”

“I grew up near the beach, and the treasure we all hoped to find was a conch shell. This piece translates the beauty and magic of those times into collage. The piece began with aluminum foil wrapped over the cut-out shell shape. It was collaged with painted tissue to build up the layers of color. Glitter, sequins, beads, and couched thread and sari waste provided texture. The shell was mounted to a tissue-collaged layer with pencil markings. The background layer is painted acrylic.”
