“These works are closely based on the original photos I shot that led to the idea of the “Our Ladies of Perpetual Help” (Cloth Paper Scissors, March/April 2010).
“Death of an Artist Series” (above)
4″ x 6″
Acrylic, transfer, collage, and star jewels on wood
“The quote on the painting reads: ‘Worth more dead than alive.’ Sadly the statement is true, regarding my current economic state. There is lots of green to represent the cash, and red for the debt. ‘Death of an Artist’ is true only in the sense that I might need to get a non-art job.”
“Modern Headdress” (right)
4″ x 6″
Acrylic, transfer, collage, and star jewels on wood
“This sort of had a Plains Indian theme, once I put her in the dollar-sign shawl dress. I couldn’t help painting the background in a way that reminded me of an elk tooth dress. Then I started to think about Native American gaming/casinos.”
