No summer travel adventure would be complete without the perfect tote bag to carry everything you need. Readers were quick to respond to our Animal-Themed Tote Bag reader challenge, and the
July/August 2017 issue of Cloth Paper Scissors is home to a great selection of these totes. A variety of animals grace the bags, and we would be proud to carry any one of them. Here are a couple that we couldn’t fit in the issue, but wanted to be sure to share with you. ~ Barbara
“This bag was created using a store-bought canvas tote. Embellishments include muslin fabric and crumpled masa paper that was hand painted using Derwent Inktense Blocks. The fabric pieces were further embellished with embroidery stitches. All of the pieces were attached to the tote with fabric glue.”

“Gone Fishing”
“This purchased canvas tote was eco-printed with eucalyptus and rusty metal. A gyotaku fish print was added to a sewn-on pocket, and the hanging fish were made from Sculpey® Oven-Bake clay, glazed, and attached with fishing tackle. The entire bag was painted with melted beeswax/paraffin and heated to saturate the canvas, making it waterproof. I plan to carry knitting, my camera, a book, and snacks . . . for when the fish aren’t biting.”
