Palms & Moss is in a shadowbox frame. The piece is done on a canvas board and I've made it from newspapers torn and saturated with glue and shaped with my hands. I then applied gesso to the entire piece, sprinkled beach sand and painted over it with white paint and applied a wash of color using acrylic paints and when dry, dabbed the entire piece with Tim Holtz Distress Ink – Vintage Photo – and immediately coated it with gel medium to blend and smooth out the ink. I elevated the canvas inside the frame on wooden blocks and then added the Spanish Moss around the edge of the canvas.
I love palms and Spanish moss, always have – they remind me of the beauty of the low country and coastal areas of South Carolina and Georgia.
