Having always been fascinated with color shapes and patterns recently I've begun work on a series of pieces that explore the idea of surface beauty that barely hides a menacing, unsettling under-layer. Plant and gardens are a perfect vehicle for this being a world unto their own where the beauty of the colors and sense draw creatures in, sometimes to colonize, sometimes only to their death. I use acrylic paint, spray paint, map and magazine papers, ink, cicada wings, skeleton leaves and metal scrap.
