The work is purely hand embroidary. Patch work is done on it. some of the patches are taken out from the unused old work. Embroidary work like Chain stitch, bedding, miror work and herribone stitch work is done.
Thread painting on painted Habutai silk, 5" x 7". This thread painting done in rayon embroidery threads on a painted silk background was based on a photograph taken by my friend, Edgar Woodfin of a river near Tuxedo, North Carolina in October. It is all straight stitch.
A happy quilting session as I was excited to put stitches into and create a finished piece using my first piece of hand-dyed painted fabric! All I could think of was a song in my head called "The River of God sets our Hearts to Dancing" and so that was my inspiration. Loving the color…
My interpretation of being in the Flathead area of Montana, a place of family homesteading, recreation and beauty. Mixed media stitch contains silver leaf foiling, bobbin play, couching and intricate stitching all reminiscent of the feelings of color, texture and beauty that the Flathead inspires in me.
